Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I graduate with a degree in manufacturing?

No, the CME offers a minor/emphasis program. Students will graduate with bachelor’s degrees from their respective academic schools/departments at the university, e.g., School of Engineering, School of Business Administration, and Patterson School of Accountancy.

What should I expect from Discovery Day?

Discovery Day is the second round of our admission process and is an ideal time for students to learn more about the CME. The Discovery Day activities are designed to give you a sample of what you will encounter as a CME student.

This event will help us identify students best suited for an academic career within the CME. Applicants selected to continue in our application process should anticipate an invitation for Discovery Day around mid-January. Spots for Discovery Day are limited to 40 applicants per session.

Can I be admitted to both the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College and the CME?

Yes, many of our students are members of both programs.

What are you looking for in an admitted student?

Like many other special programs, the CME takes a holistic approach when considering a student for admission. Considerations include ACT/SAT score, GPA, extracurricular activities, school involvement, leadership roles, and general interest.

When is the application deadline?

The final application deadline for the CME is Jan. 10, 2024.

Can I schedule a tour?

Yes! We encourage students to set up tours through the university by visiting this link. If a student is only wanting to visit the CME, they can contact our Admissions team at cmeadmissions@olemiss.edu.

Will my Manf. hours count towards my degree?

The CME has established relationships with the schools of Business, Accountancy, and Engineering. Other majors will need to speak with their academic advisor to see how the hours will work with their schedule. It may require additional hours for some majors, but we will work with each student individually.
