Matt O’Keefe serves as executive director of the CME and a professor of chemical engineering. As executive director, O’Keefe provides administrative oversight of personnel, facilities and operations; leads CME’s academic unit including curriculum development; provides leadership and strategic guidance to CME; and develops strong relationships within the university and the industry.
O’Keefe began his engineering career in manufacturing at AT&T Microelectronics before transferring to manufacturing research at AT&T Bell Laboratories. After completing graduate school, he worked for the Air Force Research Laboratory as a program manager and in-house researcher. O’Keefe then accepted a faculty appointment at Missouri S&T, where he was a tenured professor and also served as a department chair, a research center director and an assistant vice chancellor for distance education immediately before joining CME.
O’Keefe holds an undergraduate degree in metallurgical engineering from Missouri S&T and a Ph.D. in materials science and engineering from the University of Illinois. A fellow of ASM International, he brings more than 35 years of industrial and academic experience to CME.
